As a long-time partner with Global Okanagan's CHBC-TV, Thompson Okanagan Tourism attended a recent open house at the station's revamped downtown Kelowna offices, showing its support and seeing the latest high-tech developments at the broadcasting facility.
Global Okanagan General Manager Dennis Gabelhouse gave TOTA CEO Glenn Mandziuk and Corporate Officer Monica Miller a tour of the station including its corporate offices, newsroom, soundproof audio booths, editing suites, and its upgraded main studio. He says the open house was a chance to showcase changes at the station to a number of politicians, news media, sponsors, clients, and long-time key customers and partners.
"We went high-definition just before Christmas, with all-new mobile Sony HD-chip cameras," Gabelhouse says. The $1-million studio renovation includes a complete 'green-screen' backdrop, which allows the station to superimpose its newscast anchors and weather presenters on top of full-screen background images and weather maps.
Mandziuk says TOTA has been a proud partner with CHBC-TV for many years on various projects, including television commercials and special features in the station's 'Our Town' series of community profiles hosted by popular station personality Mike Roberts. He notes that some of the TOTA commercials produced by CHBC-TV a number of years ago under the slogan 'Life is Good in the Thompson Okanagan' were award-winners.
Mandziuk adds that TOTA looks forward to more joint broadcast promotions with the station in the future.
