Community Development Initiatives 2010/11
In addition to working with communities on provincial initiatives, the focus of TOTA's regional efforts will also be of considerable value to your community.
The following projects are of particular relevance to communities and in a number of cases we will be approaching your community for specific input:
- Developing Community profiles - TOTA will be creating a password-protected community 'extranet' webpage on the new TOTA industry website for viewing by your tourism related contacts. This page will summarize the tourism programs, plans, and priorities, and the local contacts and resources for your community.
- Developing annual Community Tourism Priorities list by community. TOTA will supply a template for completion.
- Undertaking an annual needs analysis that reviews your current situation and matches your community with Ministry programs and TOTA services.
- Building an inventory of Unique Features by each community (to include significant natural and built features, and unique cultural elements that collectively create a profile for positioning a community). TOTA will supply a template for completion.
- Undertaking a mapping project and supplying communities with regional map artwork for use in visitor guides, brochures, websites, visitor centres and the development of a TOTA regional map (large format) for Visitor Centres. The artwork from this project will also be utilized to develop future community mapping initiatives including print, web and IPhone applications.
- Coordinating image bank content and usage rights.
- Offering a workshop series (e.g. Ads and Brochures That Sell - additional workshops to be determined).
- Developing Resource Materials (Preparing for Promotion, Community Branding, Display Booth Equipment, and a series on the development of websites, maps, visitor guides, image bank, presentation folders, and press kits).
- Re-developing the TOTA industry website with an integrated database for TOTA community related content including a Resource Centre
To further heighten the profile of the Thompson Okanagan Region, TOTA is also embarking on the development of a regional brand identity that will support the touring markets and the identification of routes and corridors. These will be themed and linked with new and existing circle tours and travel routes into and out of the Thompson Okanagan region.
