Join Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) as a Marketing & Communications Summer Student and play a hands-on role in showcasing one of British Columbia’s most vibrant tourism regions. This dynamic position offers a unique opportunity to build your marketing portfolio while working on real campaigns, engaging with media, and collaborating with industry partners across the region.

About the Role

The Marketing & Communications Summer Student is responsible for supporting and enhancing the TOTA brand across digital, social, and traditional media channels. This role blends creativity, strategy, and relationship-building—giving you exposure to everything from social media management and content creation to media relations and campaign execution.

What You’ll Do

Digital Strategy & Content Management

  • Manage day-to-day social media posting and engagement across consumer and corporate channels

  • Maintain and update website content, including blogs and user experience improvements

  • Upload and organize photo and video assets in Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems

  • Support and execute paid advertising campaigns across search and social platforms

Creative & Graphic Design

  • Design digital and print marketing materials, including ads, brochures, and presentations

  • Develop and maintain templates in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Create engaging content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok

Media & Public Relations

  • Assist in responding to media inquiries alongside the Marketing Communications Manager

  • Help develop media pitches and contribute to quarterly media newsletters

  • Support the coordination, planning, and occasional hosting of media visits and FAM tours

Tourism & Industry Support

  • Assist with itinerary development based on TOTA guidance

  • Support conference preparation and follow-up

  • Contribute to building a database of export-ready tourism businesses, including outreach and potential on-site visits

What You Bring

  • Currently studying marketing, communications, tourism, or a related field

  • Experience or training in media relations is considered an asset

  • Experience managing paid ad campaigns (Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads) is required

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign) and/or Canva

  • Strong writing, storytelling, and content creation skills

  • Confidence networking and building relationships with stakeholders and media

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing tools

  • Demonstrated graphic design abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to analyze data and present insights clearly

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Pay: $19.00 per hour
