We at the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) focus on attracting mindful visitors and locals to the region, encourage regional dispersion, year round travel, and establish the Thompson Okanagan as a world-class tourism destination. These objectives are accomplished through our consumer channels which showcases the Thompson Okanagan brand. Along with working closely with Destination BC to target their key international markets. We use a variety of mediums, such as websites, social media, travel media, and travel trade to accomplish this.

Travel Media

Working with and building relationships with writers and outlets through hosting trips, attending conferences, and pitching offers a chance to share the stories of the region through earned media.

We find the most successful trips are ones that showcase a variety of businesses and more than one community. The support from communities and businesses are what make working with travel media possible.

Websites

Thompson Okanagan is the flagship consumer brand designed to invite visitors and locals to the region and bring awareness to responsible travel while here. Inspiring mindful travellers to take a few further turns in the region, support local, and learn from the culture and history throughout.

Along with the main channel, secondary campaigns have been created to support Thompson Okanagan and RailTrails.ca was created as a main resource for the rail trails in the Thompson Okanagan, Kootenay Rockies and Vancouver Island.

Travel Trade

Travel Trade can consist of a few mediums, but ultimately they all work to help you market and sell your business to visitors from around the world, and close. Our efforts in this industry are to ensure tour operators and receptive tour operators are knowledgeable about the product we have to offer, and assist in developing export ready businesses for them to incorporate in their itineraries, or booking platforms.

Often times businesses don’t realize they are already working in the travel trade industry when they work with online booking platforms.
