Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association August 13, 2026 Update

Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by the forest fires in the Thompson Okanagan and across the province. We are incredible grateful to the first responders, emergency management personnel, local governments, First Nations, volunteers, tourism and hospitality workers, and the many community organizations working tirelessly to support response and recovery efforts. 

A provincial state of emergency remains in place to ensure emergency services and first responders have access to the tools and resources required to protect communities and support the emergency response. The immediate priority continues to be protecting lives, supporting evacuees, and supporting emergency response efforts. The Province continues to work with the tourism and hospitality sector to secure accommodations for evacuees and emergency responders and have been successful in doing so. Travel to unimpacted communities and areas of the region and province are encouraged. 

The Thompson Okanagan and indeed, the Province of British Columbia, are vast with many diverse experiences, welcoming communities, and areas untouched by the current situation. Visitors are asked to continue to get real time information from official sources: Emergency Info BC, Drive BC, and BC Wildfire Service.
