The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association is pleased to recognize these Biosphere Commitment Program Partners that have strategically aligned their organizations with TOTA. Through their efforts we are collectively able to build a Tourism Industry that is resilient, sustainable, responsible tourism network.
The Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) is an international organization that promotes, for more than 20 years, responsible tourism at an international level.
The RTI was born with the support of UNESCO through a Memorandum of Understanding that has allowed throughout the years the collaboration between both organizations, promoting sustainable tourism through the Biosphere brand.
The Thompson Okanagan Region was officially certified as the first destination in the Americas to have successfully achieved the Sustainable Tourism Accreditation from Biosphere International and the Responsible Tourism Institute.
As a destination, we have taken our accreditation a step further and have initiated the Biosphere Commitment program to not only identify and feature responsible tourism providers in the Thompson Okanagan, but also facilitate and support their sustainable initiatives.
We are proud to follow the guidance of the seven affirmations and the 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals.
