Celebrating the Adra Tunnel Restoration
On September 23rd we gathered for a celebration of the people and partners who helped bring the historic Adra Tunnel back to life.
Collaborative efforts from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, Trans Canada Trail Alliance, the dedicated volunteers of the Woodwackers and Woodwackers 2.0, and the many community partners made this restoration possible.
After being closed to the public for more than 40 years, the 485-metre Adra Tunnel on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail above Naramata is once again open for everyone to explore. Adra Tunnel offers a one-of-a-kind way to experience the region’s railway history. Visitors can walk or ride through the tunnel, explore the surrounding trail and enjoy this unique part of the Thompson Okanagan.
The restoration has also added new amenities, including new lighting, resurfaced and graded trail sections, picnic tables, benches, bike racks, a restroom and updated historical and interpretive signage. Creating an even more welcoming experience for those spending time on the trail.
Thank you to everyone whose time, effort and collaboration helped bring this special piece of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail back to life. We’re excited to see this historic trail experience preserved and open for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy.
