New Community Stewardship Toolkit Helps Outdoor Recreation Groups Take Action

A new toolkit from the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) provides practical guidance for recreation organizations that are planning stewardship events across B.C.

The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) has launched a Community Stewardship Event Toolkit to help recreation organizations plan meaningful stewardship activities and contribute to the places where people recreate.

The toolkit covers key considerations including health and safety, accessibility, communications, permits and permissions, partnerships, and relationships with Indigenous communities.

It also provides guidance on five types of stewardship activities: clean-ups, habitat restoration, invasive species removal, native species planting, and citizen science, with practical information and examples to help organizations get started.

Recreation organizations can also use the toolkit to connect with stewardship initiatives already underway and find opportunities to contribute volunteers, local knowledge, and support.
